Yesterday, on the occasion of his 81st birthday President Pranab Mukherjee launched a campaign to end child labor, child slavery and violence against children.
Mr. Mukherjee launched the '100 Million for 100 Million Campaign' organized by Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation. Around 5,000 children participated in it. The campaign aims to mobilise 100 million youth and children to support the 100 million underprivileged children across the world.
During this launch, Pranab Mukherjee stressed the need of including children in the education system and also underlined the need to keep children safe and healthy. There are around 100 million children who are still kept deprived of schooling and basic education. He assured firm steps from government to educate children.
He further mentioned that, it is only appropriate that this campaign begins from India, which has one of the largest populations of youth in the world.
He expressed a hope that, in coming five years the campaign will have a path-breaking impact on the lives of children across the world.
